Please write approximately 500 words for each post. Every post must contain an embedded visual element, such as a photo or video. Like so:
Our blog will explore relevant, inspirational video, photo, audio & multimedia storytelling from the web that we can learn from in a positive way. Alternatively, students may choose to submit additional multimedia stories with express permission from me.
Complete a maximum of two from each of these categories – for a total of four posts:
1. Personal inspiration posts: Highlight one piece of multimedia (video or otherwise) that we can all learn from in a positive way. Utilize the “visual language” lexicon to analyze production techniques and storytelling approaches.
2. Profile of a practitioner: Profile one multimedia journalist or filmmaker whose work inspires you. Consider reaching out to them for an interview.
3. Profile of a platform or publication: Examine one platform or publication that is providing a home for meaningful nonfiction multimedia/video/audio storytelling. Examine their storytelling approach, brand identity, frequency of publication, funding model, and types of contributors (freelance vs. staff; established vs. ‘up-and-coming’). Consider reaching out to these organizations for comment.
4. Additional Multimedia Story: Create an additional photo, audio or video story. Publish on class blog and submit link on Moodle. Must be pitched and approved by instructor first.
Blogs will be graded on the quality of the content and writing. Ask yourself, could this piece be published by an established media outlet? Which one(s)?
